
CULTURAL AND CIVIC SERVICES DEPARTMENT
The Cultural and Civic Services Department oversees
the Tarpon Springs Public Library, Tarpon Springs Performing Arts
Center, Tarpon Springs Cultural Center, Heritage Museum, Train Depot
Museum and Visitors Center, and the 1883 Safford House. In addition, it
serves as the City's liaison with the Tarpon Springs Area Historical
Society.
The department preserves and promotes the City's heritage, develops
cultural and heritage tourism opportunities, and creates high quality
performing and cultural arts activities for the public to enjoy on a
year round basis.
The Tarpon Springs Public Library provides easy access to information
and special programs as well as a wide array of reading and audio-visual
materials for recreation and study.
Kathleen Monahan, Director of Cultural and Civic Services, has served
the City of Tarpon Springs for over 28 years. She holds a Bachelor of
Arts from the University of California, Irvine; a Master of Arts in
Musicology from Wesleyan University; and Master of Library Science from
the University of South Florida and a Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology from the
University of Pittsburgh. She also serves as a liaison to the Sister
City Committee.
