Rededication of Sunburst of Energy Mural - March 1, 2011

The rededication ceremony for the restoration of the Sunburst of Energy mural, overlooking Spring Bayou, was held Tuesday, March 1 in Craig Park. The restoration project was a combined effort between the artist, Elizabeth Indianos, the City of Tarpon Springs Public Art Committee and the Public Works Department.

The Sunburst of Energy mural was originally painted on the Recreation Building in Craig Park in 1978 by artist Elizabeth Indianos and has been in existence for 33 years. The artwork incorporates a progression of colors from warm to cool, from the center burst towards the outer layer. The artist's intention was to insert a vibrant, burst of energy and vitality into the park and bayou area. Indianos, first restored and repainted the mural in 1998, 20 years after it's initial creation. She aided the City with the current restoration by researching, choosing and recommending specific paint hues, supplying paint codes and chips and worked with the city to oversee the restoration.

For more information or questions, contact Kathleen Monahan, Director of Cultural and Civic Services, 727-937-0686 or email the artist, Elizabeth Indianos, at lizart1@mac.com
