FROM THE OFFICE OF THE MAYOR

Welcome to the official website of the City of Tarpon Springs. Whether you live and work here, or if you are planning a visit to our city, we hope that you find this website to be a valuable resource.

I am proud to have been sworn in as your Mayor on March 16, 2010.  I look forward to working with all of Tarpon Springs’ citizens and stakeholders as your new Mayor.

It seems like only yesterday when the support of individuals like you helped me to serve four terms on the Tarpon Springs City Commission. During my tenure on the Commission, I served five years as Vice Mayor.  I will forever be grateful for the support I received during those elections. After my last term in office, I had to sit out a year because of the term limit restrictions. My time out of office gave me a chance to reflect on whether I had been an effective representative of Tarpon Springs’ residents. Many voters have told me they believe I did an excellent job on the Commission and urged me to run for Mayor.  Their appreciation has both humbled and encouraged me. After consulting my family, I decided to seek the office of Mayor for the City of Tarpon Springs.  Following numerous weeks of hard work, with my many supporters, you the voters have bestowed on me the honor of being Mayor.

While there were many accomplishments during my previous terms on the Commission, I certainly do not feel that I have done all that I can do for my community; nor can I take individual credit for any of those past accomplishments. My philosophy is one of “WE” because it takes a majority of the Commission, reflecting the input of citizens, to decide any issue or the direction in which Tarpon Springs should go.

My terms on the City Commission have given me both the experience and knowledge to help Tarpon Springs continue to grow stronger as a city. I believe I have proven that I will make decisions in the best interest of the community.  I also believe that my balanced and logical approach will help me serve effectively as your new Mayor.

It is time for us to come together as a Commission and a City to provide the best service possible for you, our citizens.  There will be some hurdles and obstacles, but nothing we can’t overcome, as long as we keep focused on doing what is best for our residents.  I look forward to serving you as your Mayor.  In order for me to effectively represent you, I need your thoughts.  Please don’t hesitate to let me know your opinion, as we strive to help our city continue to prosper.
