Mayor Koulianos was elected without opposition for his second term and took office on April 8, 2025. He was first elected as a City Commissioner and was sworn into office on April 11, 2023. John has a long history of volunteerism in all facets throughout the community, including serving on: Tarpon Springs Planning and Zoning Board; Tarpon Springs Police Pension Board; AdventHealth North Pinellas Foundation Board; St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral Board; Tarpon Springs Friends of the Library; Tarpon Springs Rotary; Tarpon Springs Youth Football and Soccer Coach. Mayor Koulianos holds the professional designations of Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA) and Master Analyst in Financial Forensics (MAFF). He has taught as an adjunct accounting instructor at St. Petersburg College and as an accredited continuing legal education provider by the Florida Bar Association. Mayor Koulianos appears regularly in court proceedings as an expert witness on tax, accounting and forensic matters. John has been married to Kay Cortessis Koulianos for 44 years and has two daughters, both graduates of Tarpon Springs High School. Kay is a life-long resident of Tarpon Springs and manages their accounting office. John and Kay are blessed with a granddaughter and a soon to be grandson on the way. John has a passion for running, which is exemplified by his completion of the New York City Marathon in 2021 and the Chicago Marathon in October of 2023. He is scheduled to run in the Marine Corps Marathon in 2025, with his long-term goal of qualifying for the Boston Marathon. He has a long family history in Tarpon Springs with his father, and decorated war veteran, Michael G. Koulianos having been born in Tarpon Springs in 1915. John's brother Tom was also a former Mayor and Commissioner of Tarpon Springs and are the first brothers in Tarpon Springs history to both serve as Mayors. Mayor Koulianos believes in progress with an emphasis on preservation of the heritage that makes Tarpon Springs unique.
