Hydrant Flushing

The City begins its annual hydrant flushing in November. The process takes  approximately three months, and a contractor performs the work. Hydrant flushing is a yearly activity that tests fire hydrants for readiness and cleans water mains. You may notice some discoloration or cloudiness in the water. This is normal and typically clears up within a few hours. If you encounter cloudy or discolored water, we advise running the cold water tap outside your home until the water is clear.

Hydrant Flushing is done within the city by zones. Zone 1 extends north from Gulf Rd and east to Pinellas Ave. Zone 2 extends north of Tarpon Ave and west to Pinellas Ave. Zone 3 extends south of Gulf Rd and east to Pinellas Ave. Zone 4 extends south of Tarpon Ave and west to Pinellas Ave.
