NOTICE: Hydrant Flushing
The City begins its annual hydrant flushing in November. The process takes approximately three months, and a contractor performs the work. Hydrant flushing is a yearly activity that tests fire hydrants for readiness and cleans water mains. You may notice some discoloration or cloudiness in the water. This is normal and typically clears up within a few hours. If you encounter cloudy or discolored water, we advise running the cold water tap outside your home until the water is clear.

Precautionary Boil Water Notices may be issued because the water system loss of power, loss of water pressure, a water main break or another unforeseen emergency. Water pressure keeps pollutants from entering the underground pipes that bring drinking water to your house or business. The notice does not mean the water is contaminated, it means it is possible that contaminates seeped into the pipes and affected the drinking water. Until bacteriological testing is completed, we recommend, as a precaution, boiling water before consuming it to kill any potential contaminates (or by using bottled water).
Typically, Precautionary Boil Water Notice areas are isolated and affect only a small number of customers. In these cases, a door hanger is delivered directly to the customers. The information will also be provided on the City of Tarpon Springs website and social media pages.
