Florida Green Local Government Certification

The City of Tarpon Springs earned the Florida Green Building Council (FGBC) Green Local Government Certification Silver designation from 2013 - 2023. This certification designates cities and counties in Florida for outstanding environmental stewardship.

Greenhouse Gas Inventory

The City of Tarpon Springs completed a Greenhouse Gas Inventory to estimate municipal emissions for the year 2019 as its baseline. This does not include community-wide emissions.  Greenhouse Gas Inventory Technical Report (PDF).

Reverse Osmosis Facility in 2020Solar Energy

The City of Tarpon Springs completed Phase 1 of a solar installation at the Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment Facility in 2020. It is comprised of a 120kW AC solar system. In 2024, Phase 2 of the Solar power system was installed at the Reverse Osmosis Facility, adding  235 kW AC of power for a total production capacity of 355kW. This system offsets a portion of the on-site energy needs and serves to lower the overall cost of water production. 

Duke Clean Energy Connection Subscription

The City of Tarpon Springs participates in the Duke Clean Energy Connection program. Participation in this program allows the city to subscribe to community solar energy and receive Renewable Energy Certificates. Long term participation in this program will lead to energy cost savings in the future. 

Solar United Neighbors

Solar United Neighbors (SUN)

The City of Tarpon Springs supported the Florida Solar United Neighbors (FL SUN) 2022 Pinellas County Solar Co-op as a Community Partner, which it has been since 2017. SUN offers programs for residents to buy solar systems through a community buying model that saves money and utilizes approved local contractors. In early 2025, The City of Tarpon Springs shared with residents a new solar community buying option from SUN, Switch Together.
